Gabriela
Bulisova,
a native of the former Czechoslovakia, is a 2005 recipient of
MFA degree in Photography and Digital Imaging from the Maryland
Institute College of Art/MICA, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Her primary photographic interest and artistic focus is in the
realm of socially concerned documentary photography, corresponding
with her belief in the artist’s political awareness, conscience,
and responsibilities, and conversely, in arts vital potential
for education, influence and change.
Her travels include:
2005:
Iran --conducting MICA Walters Travel Fellowship project documenting
dualities of life and culture of Iran: "Iran is
just like a Gabbeh".
2005:
Ukraine-- CEC Artslink grant funding collaboration between US
and Ukrainian artists,
documenting changes of UA since its independence
2004:
Ukraine & Belarus-- continuing work on a project: “Life
on the Edge: Half-Lives, Half-Truths of Chernobyl” and a
book project: "20 years - 20 lives", in collaboration

2003:
Belarus-- travels with the Irish Chernobyl Children’s Project’s
“Twenty-first Humanitarian Aid Convoy” documenting
deliveries of humanitarian and medical aid to orphanages, asylums
and hospitals.
2002:
Iraq-- travels with humanitarian delegation of Physicians for
Social Responsibility to Baghdad and Basrah. As an outcome of
the journey, she organized and coordinated a nation-wide traveling
exhibit of photographs from Iraq, entitled “Faces of Iraq”.
